Catering Menu Design

Heirloom Salad Co. offers a huge selection of catering options, and fitting them onto one menu was no easy task. The menu was intended to be available in-store and digitally. The owner wanted the colors to be black on white because several guests circle items they want and return the menu to order.

The main struggle of this design was maintaining organization while also incorporating all menu items. In the end, I was very impressed with how it came out and the owner loves the final product.

When I was initially asked to redesign the Heirloom Salad Co. catering menu, I made a tri-fold design. The owner liked the design, but ultimately did not want to invest in having tri-fold menus professionally printed. The primary tri-fold drafts are displayed below.

Design Process

The first thing I do when starting a new menu layout is go all in on the measurements and guides. Having everything planned out and evenly spaced aids in overall readability of the document. Below is an example.

Initial draft

This is the draft I initially designed. It was intended to be a tri-fold, double sided design. The owner decided against investing in professionally printed brochures, so I moved on to the 8.5x11 inch design pictured above.
